Doors Open Ontario began in 2002 as an initiative of the Ontario Heritage Trust. It was created to connect the people of Ontario to their Built and Natural Heritage sites. The sites are opened to the public, free-of-charge for one day, to share Ontario’s diverse cultures with all. The sites are normally not accessible to the public, but on this one day, the doors are opened and these unique sites are staffed by Volunteers who are happy to share their knowledge and dedication to their site. Doors Open Markham has been a proud part of this global initiative since 2003.
